![]() So how do you set the far-point then? e.g. I am not the type that demands everything, as long as the main functions are done well, I will live with or resolve the secondary issues, so in-camera focus stack acquisition is good to have but not essential for my A7R2 and R4. I am perfectly happy with my setup and the only issue is not as handy as done in-camera. Works well, but there is an extra initial capital cost involved, but works with all/most Sony cameras. One other use is Moon face focus stacking (yeh I know some will tell me at that distance there is no use for Focus Stacking), but I use it anyway.įor onsite, you have CamRanger 2, which is a device you attached to the flash hotshoe and connect via USB to the camera and control using your HP. It is a studio style approach, but if you can bring your laptop to the field, you can do the same thing for landscape and onsite focus stack acquisition as well. You can get another stack, or leave the setup and start your PP for the focus stack you have acquired. Oh, in IE you have to select where you want your images stored. The interval is very fast and the shots will be sent to your laptop in IE and you can review them. Finally select to take the shots and click start. You can then adjust the number of steps and step size. The trial will show you where is the last shot focus will end you up at. Set the number of steps, step size (small, medium, large) and you can trial your setup without actually taking the shots. Focus on the subject (normally near point). The setup is simple - connect the Windows laptop via USB to the camera and connect using IE. Thus fully MF lens without focus by wire control cannot be used. While the camera is set using button or menu to MF. The only issue using B8Stack is that the lens must be set to AF (Focusing by wire through Imaging Edge - I will shorten this as IE from here on). I use Focus Stacking indoor with Imaging Edge alone or Imaging Edge + B8Stack App (developed by someone and no longer updating it, but works perfectly well). Is there any interest in the SONY user "camp" (terrible expression, but can't think of a better one right now) in an automatic focus bracketing? I think it adds quite a bit to a simple small aperture shot. Tried this a few times, but thought I never needed more than 12 frames. In reality I had already reached the front sunshade at frame 11. ![]() Nit-picking a bit when it comes to the A7C manually set 15 frames shot. The X-Pro3 images were generated from SOOC jpgs.Ī7C 15 frames - note that the SONY engraving is slightly "out" versus the right metal ring behind. Then the same tests regarding moving flowers. Manual stacking can be done but takes substantially longer to do.Ī few pics that I took for testing: the A7C plus lens were never completely still when it dangled from a cross-beam of our rear deck. Why don't they have it? SONY cameras that is.can the "throw" on the macro lenses be adjusted to truly slow? If I don't use the fully manual Nikkor, how do the focus-by-wire lenses work in this regard e.g.Is there a better way to do stacking with the A7C (or any other SONY A-Series camera). On the Nikkor when using 15 frames (who not many more?) I almost every time run out of scope, basically wasting a few frames. When I compare the 15 frames on the A7C with shots where more frames were used I think I can see a better allover rendering of the final image. So it can be done, but when I compare images taken with the X-Pro3 using up to 130 frames (only some shots so far required more than 100 frames, the majority of the X-Pro3 stacks generate between 30 and 50 frames). So for those shots I take my X-Pro3.įor manual focus stacking I use the A7C with a Nikkor 55/3.5, key in 15 frames, interval shooting and then slowly (read: sloooooowly) turn the focus ring on the totally manual Nikkor Micro. At this stage the lack of automatic focus bracketing keeps me from getting a SONY (90/2.8) - or SIGMA (105/2.8) - macro lens. or are they just a bit lazy regarding a feature/development?
